Home EV charger permits, filed right the first time.
Almost every Level 2 install adds a circuit, so almost every one needs an electrical permit. We make sure the load calculation, the breaker and the charger setting agree before the reviewer sees them.
What jurisdictions usually ask for
- An electrical permit whenever a new circuit or feeder is added, or the charger is hardwired.
- A load calculation that treats the charger as a continuous load and shows the service can carry it.
- The charger's spec sheet and installation instructions, including any adjustable current setting the design relies on.
- GFCI protection for receptacle installs, and a disconnect within sight for hardwired equipment over 60 amps.
- A site plan or clear location description, plus feeder and trenching details for detached garages.
Requirements vary by city and county, so we confirm them for each job during jurisdiction research, before we file.
Where these permits stall
- A load calculation, breaker size and charger setting that do not match.
- A service upgrade discovered after the job was sold.
- Disconnect or GFCI protection that does not line up with the equipment.
- Paperwork missing at the final inspection, which means a reinspection.
What we do on these jobs
- Check the load calculation against the panel before filing.
- Document adjustable settings or load management so the reviewer can see them.
- Make sure the installation instructions and approved load calc are on site for the final.
- Answer every plan-check comment at no extra charge.
