Standby generator permits, every trade in one package.

A standby generator touches electrical, gas, zoning and sometimes structural review. We find out how many permits the city wants, build one complete package, and line up the inspections in the right order.

What jurisdictions usually ask for

  • The right number of permits for the jurisdiction. Some want one, some want separate electrical, gas and building permits filed by separately licensed contractors.
  • A site plan with distances to the house, property lines, openings and the gas meter or propane tank.
  • A single-line diagram, generator and transfer switch details, and a load calculation that shows the generator can carry what is transferred.
  • Gas line size, type and length, and often a service revision with the gas utility for the larger load.
  • Pad, flood elevation, screening and noise limits where the jurisdiction sets them.

Requirements vary by city and county, so we confirm them for each job during jurisdiction research, before we file.

Where these permits stall

  • One permit filed in a city that wants three.
  • A placement that breaks the setback from openings or property lines.
  • A whole-house transfer switch with no load management shown on the plans.
  • A gas utility meter upgrade that was not started when the job was sold.

What we do on these jobs

  • Confirm the permit count and who must pull each one before filing.
  • Build the site plan around the jurisdiction's actual setbacks.
  • Sequence the inspections, including any pre-pour pad inspection, so the building final is not booked before the trade finals pass.
  • Answer every plan-check comment at no extra charge.
